Caring for your cheese
At the Pangbourne Cheese Shop our cheese is ripened ready for you to take home and enjoy. Our staff will always happily advise you on how to store your cheese but here are some tips...
Cheeses should be stored in a cool place. It is best to store all your cheese in the vegetable compartment of your fridge, usually at around 4.5°C. Cheese can be stored in their original wrappers.
Cheese is a natural product so you can expect some blooms and moulds to develop on the outside. Some people prefer not to eat the rind at all but we find it is the most tasty part of a cheese. As a rule of thumb – on hard cheeses the rind is best removed, on softer cheeses it is by most considered to be an integral part of the cheese, but it should always be a case of personal preference (if you enjoy it – eat it, if you don’t, then don’t!)
When serving, remove only the amount you think you will need. Take it out about an hour before eating and allow the cheese to come to room temperature. Leaving the cheese to warm up allows it to develop a fuller, more aromatic flavour.
Eating cheese should always be a pleasure and our aim is to ensure that it is! Our staff can always advise you on a nice bottle of wine to enjoy with your cheese :-)
